Designed by the eccentric artist and sculptor Antonio Vandrè Pioli in Cavriago, Italy, it is celebrated as a \"sound sculpture\" for its avant-garde aesthetic and radical engineering. Antonio Pioli, nicknamed \"Wandre,\" founded the brand in 1957. He ignored traditional guitar-making methods, opting instead for sculptural shapes and experimental materials. The “Tri-Lam\"moniker refers to the guitar's tri-laminated body construction, typically featuring three-ply laminated poplar wood. In the early 1960s, the Tri-Lam was one of Wandre's best-selling models in Europe.
