It was designed to replicate the look of pre-1929 instruments. Unlike the heavier-braced Dreadnoughts of the 1970s, the 0-16NY was built exceptionally light. It was specifically intended for silk and steel or nylon strings, though it is strong enough for standard light-gauge steel strings. This original run lasted from 1961 until 1977, with sporadic production following in later decades.
