While a double-bound \"Custom Telecaster\" existed from 1959–1972, the model was redesigned in 1972 to compete with Gibson's humbucker-equipped guitars. Fender hired Seth Lover, the creator of the Gibson P.A.F. humbucker, to design the Wide Range humbucker for the neck position. It was discontinued in 1981 but has since seen numerous reissues. This guitar is finished in a beautiful original \"Mocha Brown” finish (often referred to as Walnut) became a popular and iconic colour for Fender in the mid-1970s.
