Designed by Dan Armstrong for Ampeg, these were the first mass-produced solid-body electric instruments made from clear acrylic (Lucite). They were intended to maximize sustain and provide a futuristic aesthetic. Production was short-lived, with only about 3,000 basses ever produced. After the original run, reissues were produced to meet collector demand, with the manufacutre relocated to Japan. The second major reissue, including this 2008 model, was launched around 2006 by Ampeg’s then-parent company, Loud Technologies.
